Weekend Wrapup

This was what I call a lazy weekend. I loved it. I read, gave myself a pedicure and a facial. I went to the farmer's market, drank starbucks and truly just slowed down. B and I went out for crawfish and enjoyed the outside! Sunday I had an alum brunch - DELISH! Who can go wrong with Brenner's. mmm...and then I did nothing the rest of the day. It was lovely...and I think I just needed some time to just be.

Blood taken

My doctor - on top of what will be happening Wednesday also wanted to have a full bloodwork up done on me. I obliged. I fasted for 12 hours and went in this morning...warning...this is a bit gross/has to do with blood.

I have to say, I was a little bit annoyed at the nurse. She pulled the needle out of my arm and didn't put pressure on it immediately and therefore blood started spewing. I felt faint. Granted, in the end it was all ok and I only got a little bit of blood on me - but after 5 vials taken, I just wasn't feeling hot to begin with and then to see more jolt out of my body...not cool. Whenever I have my blood taken I get a little light headed - today was way worse...at least I got myself starbucks afterwards...I mean that was a great excuse!

All in all...I am ok. I just get REALLY moody about all of this. I just want it to be over and done with. I want to know what is going on with my body and to know what to do next.

Allergies/pollen

Is anyone else having allergy issues?
Is anyone else's car yellow/green due to pollen?

Just wondering :)

RELAX

With B out of town this weekend for work..I did something I haven't done in ages...I relaxed all weekend long.

Went to the Original Ninfa's for dinner with friends on Friday night. I'd never been...SO GOOD.

Saturday I went grocery shopping and then took the pup to the dog park...she loved it. Then we went on a 2 mile walk. She loved that too...this is what she looked like afterwards...yeah she was tired. I just love how HUGE her tongue is when she's exhausted!

I spent the rest of Saturday reading, enjoying a glass of wine and truly just relaxing.

Sunday - went to Church, took Roxy out again and then enjoyed dinner with a friend. A nice relaxing weekend.

sad

Back in January 2009 I wrote about something somewhat personal. You can read about it here.

So I've had to go every 6 months to have this checked out...but this time it came back worse and now they will be doing another prodecure as it showed cancerous cells. As my doctor has said, I am very lucky that I don't have any STDs (um thanks? thanks for that Doc!) but apparently STDs (mainly HPV) could make this situation even worse. So that's the highlight I guess- yay no STDs! (not that I was worried at all)-  I guess she was just trying to make me feel like everything could be worse? I'm not sure.

But anyway, later this month I will be seeing the oncologist and have a few other tests done. I was trying to explain my emotions but really the only word I can come up with is sad. I feel like my body is failing me - I didn't do anything wrong and yet this is happening. It just makes me sad. I have been trying to just think of the positives of life, how if it is bad, we caught it quickly, so that is always a good thing. How it could be nothing, but mostly - I just try to not think of it - which is nearly impossible.

Anyway...since I do use this as my "journal"...I just wanted to write it all down. It somehow helps.

Rut

I'm in a rut. With a bum shoulder - oh I didn't ever write about that...I have a slightly torn rotator cuff - which means im in physical therapy, which also means I feel so incredibly weak and my shoulder is sore ALL OF THE TIME. I will say it has gotten so much better...SO MUCH BETTER...but I have my days. Soon hopefully it will all be a distant memory!

As for all the rest of it - im in a rut. A cooking rut, an after work routine rut and just in general feeling blah. So...I'm trying to get out of it. I want to try new things- I love Cooking light magazine and I'm going to try to pull a few new recipes to try, I'm going to try to actually get things done after work instead of being lazy - but sometimes after work I'm not gonna lie - I only want to get dinner cooked and have a cocktail...cuz I'm classy like that. ;)

2011 Vacations!

As I mentioned last year - We went to La Jolla.
B travels a lot for work. He gets to go to really fun and awesome places and sometimes I get to meet him for a long weekend in those fun places. We went to California and Colorado last year...and this year he is going back to La Jolla.

I am meeting him at the end of the week...I couldn't be more excited.

We are staying at the Grande Colonial Inn. I fell in love with this hotel last year and cannot wait to go back.

So we have now started planning the trips of 2011...so far - we have Padre Island (for camping), La Jolla, Florida and the Bahamas and who knows what else. I must say...2011 is looking to be wonderful!

DayZero Project

I've received a TON of emails about the DayZero project - and truly it is a wonderful concept.

The real point of this project - to me is this - to stop waiting for this or that. To really plan out all of the things I want to buy, do, say, etc. It really helped me connect more with myself. I've always wanted to try some new things but I never got around to it - so I challenged myself - and gave myself a reasonable time to get them done. Sure I didn't get 100% done, but I did do a lot of things, that I hadn't done. Tried new things, planned out trips and truly enjoyed every one of them.

I've heard of 30 before 30 or 40 before 40 - all WONDERFUL ideas...just make sure you aren't 39.5 and only give yourself 6 months to do things that may not be reasonable - for example (don't put on there a trip to china, a trip to the bahamas, backpacking Machu Picchu and save $5k in our savings) as that would be incredibly difficult to accomplish (depending on your finances...I know it would not be feasable to me) but all the trips I put in mine - I have 2.5 years to plan, save and know that's where I want my money to go - not on a new pair of shoes - if that makes sense.

Truly - It was an amazing experience for me. Mostly though, through a rough period in my life, it helped me have goals, stay positive and enjoy life. :)

101 in 1001...

Back on August 1, 2008 I started the DayZero project. Basically I set 101 goals, challenges and other things to do to accomplish by April 29, 2011.  It is 2.5 years later...while it isn't April 29, 2011...the next month is packed so I don't believe I will have time to get anymore of the goals done. Out of the 101 goals...only 9 were left undone. This makes me happy. While it wasn't 100% I am so happy with the results. So...as of May 1 I will be doing another one. I am will post the new goals on a tab sometime in the next few days and I am so excited.

As for the one B and I are doing together - I think it is going wonderfully.

Life is good.

Life

I feel that life is flying by and I am not taking the time to enjoy it...so this week I am going to try to "stop and smell the roses"...

Top 2 Tuesday

TOP 2 Random things about me:

1.  I'm addicted to Reality TV...and I don't want to be! Actually...I am addicted to Bravo...not all reality TV. Mostly because I think "are people REALLY like that?"

2. I work in the Oil and Gas industry but in the insurance sector and I love it. Watching Vicki be excited about insurance is exactly how I feel. I know most people think it is incredibly boring - but me - I love it - and it is not nearly as boring as one would think!

Lent

I am always asked "what are you giving up for lent this year" and usually it is "curse words" "chocolate" "coffee" but this year I wanted to do something different. I read about 40 bags in 40 days and I decided to participate.

I have WAY TOO MUCH STUFF...and simplifying could be incredibly helpful. So that's what I am doing. I am excited and nervous to let go of my "things."

Sunday, March 6, 2011

So I joined BambooPink and I wanted to pass along some information regarding it.

Bamboopink is a new fashionable, yet affordable jewelry line made and designed by a famous, high-end designer whose current line is sold in upscale department stores, is all over the red carpet and worn by Oprah! This company is the first of its kind, an internet launched company with virtual trunk shows…there are no parties to host and no phone calls to make.

Sign-ups are free, with no risks or obligations. The free signing period is only through March 15, after that you will have to pay to be a consultant.

What sets this company apart from other direct sales companies:

•GROUND FLOOR opportunity (probably won’t ever happen to you again!)

•Strongest company plan in the industry

•We have a very successful designer, multi-million dollar jeweler making & backing this jewelry, so it's sure to be successful.

•Instead of growing one sales rep at a time, this business model using the free sign-up period – we can grow fifty sales reps at a time – but the time to do that is NOW!

This company is going to explode in a few weeks with a national press release and official launch in April. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So be one of the first to sign up!

Then you can do the same as me and get credit for signing up your friends, which is what we are compensated for with jewelry, cash and/or an ipad. It is not about selling the jewelry at this point, but networking and creating interest. If you decide not to sell, you have lost nothing and your name is dropped from the list.

It’s simple to sign up, go to my site: https://www.bamboopink.net/Texasgal05

Copy this email (text and picture) into a new message and replace my webpage link with your webpage link and send it to your friends. You could win some awesome prizes and you could be building a fabulous network for yourself very quickly.

Rodeo

Last weekend was fun. So much fun.

Saturday was the Houston Livestock Show and Rode BBQ Championships...and I got tickets from work to our tent - which included unlimited food and drinks...not too shabby.

So off B and I went with two of our good friends (my childhood bff and her husband). It was great. We bought tickets to the carnival, rode the bumper cars, played all those random - throw the softball and knock over the milk jugs, make the basketball go into the oval hoop, toss washers over soda bottles, pop balloons with blunt darts - all of those ridiculous games. We also ate our fair share of fried oreos, fried snickers bar, ice cream, brisket, and of course a funnel cake. All in all...it was great.  You can see that we did in fact win some prizes.

Need Help

So as I have mentioned a few times...My very best friend in the entire world is pregnant and is due in less than 3 weeks. We've had her baby shower and she was definetely showered with gifts and love...but I have a question for the mommies out there....

What is one thing that one of your friends did, gave you etc that truly helped right after the birth of your child? I am clueless in this department but I want to be helpful in any way possible.

Thanks in advance!

Texas Longhorns

Kelly is having a "show us your life" - Alma Maters - edition and I wanted to join in!

I went to The University of Texas- Austin. I loved it. I loved every second of it. When I was growing up, I visited Austin with my family and I fell in love. I love the Hill Country, I love that Austin has live music every where and I loved my time in Austin.

I was in a sorority and I met some of my very best friends there.

This was taken at our 80th year on campus at UT. It was a great celebration!

These are my 2 very best friends - K and V.
K still lives in Austin and V and I party it up in H-town!

While I don't have any college pictures to show...I can show you a few pictures of the fabulous people I met while in College.

Girls get together in Dallas!

My Friend KM with one of her sons!

My friend S. Love her, and I miss her - too bad she lives far far away.

All of those girls I met at UT. Too bad I don't have more pictures on hand as I am missing quite a few people! While at UT - we went to frat parties, had girls nights, watch movies together, went out to eat, and truly had a WONDERFUL time...but we also did this...

 TUBING down the river....love it.

As an alum - I have met lots of people and reconnected with other people. I love our Alum events, I love watching the football games, basketball games #1 at the moment and everything else.

Lastly..I met the love of my life there. While I wasn't smitten when we first met, I am so glad we became friends and are who we are today.

Memorial Mass.

Yesterday we held mass for my Uncle. It was very hard, but also healing.

Father said something yesterday at Mass that has stuck with me and really helped.

He said "the sadness we feel, the grief, isn't because we are not happy, we are happy that he is going home to be with the Father, the sadness comes from the separation we feel for no longer having him near us."

This has really helped.

How does someone say Goodbye.

My Uncle passed away on Saturday morning. It was unexpected and heartbreaking to be honest. He has 3 sons - ages 15, 19 and 27. How does one say goodbye to someone they love. I struggle with this. Everyone has ups and downs in life - and I struggle with the feelings of knowing he is in a better place- a happier place.

He taught me a lot of things in life and I just don't truly believe he is gone. As B told me, you won't really feel him being gone until there is something that you need and you say "I'll call my uncle, he'd know". I know he is right about that. We are having a memorial service here in Texas and then this summer, as is tradition in my family, we will all go to Florida and have family time where we laugh and cry and enjoy each other's company and then go to Disney World and be kids again. I love this tradition.

Things I learned from my Uncle -

An Appreciation of music - he bought me my first CD player, Ipod and my first CDs. My mother didn't approve of them, she didn't like that her younger brother bought her daughter a CD that had a few curse words in them, or that I had music blaring from my room.

All cars can be fixed. I don't know how to fix them, but he did. He truly appreciated the beauty in all cars.

To not make life altering mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes but he always told me, to follow what he was saying and not what he did in life because he made some life altering mistakes and he loved me too much for me to follow that route.

He taught me that everyone deserves second chances. People make mistakes, screw up and are truly sorry- just because you make a mistake doesn't mean your heart wasn't in the right place.

Mostly though, I learned that I love my family more than I have words for. I ache more than I thought I would. I am numb at the moment, but that numb feeling is overwhelming. I feel like I am trying to be strong, hold it together and I just know I will break at any given moment. I had no idea how much I truly loved my uncle and I wonder if he knew. I know that he knows now, which is comforting. I just feel so sad.

Valentine's Day

Flower's from B. I'm so blessed.

Randoms

Tidbits on my mind:

I'm walking like an old person today because my quads are killing me. I have to use arm strength to get out of my office chair. I am so happy I have an office so people don't look at me funny!

My credit card number was stolen. Yes this sucks- no they didn't get any goods. I couldn't use it yesterday due to it being declined. So I called the company and they asked me if I tried to purchase $8,500 at Tiffany's online. I said no, but what were they trying to buy. I was curious- the lady on the phone wasn't amused and said my card was cancelled, to shred it and another will be sent to me. I just wanted to know what the thief wanted!!!

I made spaghetti squash- 2 times in a week. I really like it - but apparently one can get sick from eating too much squash. My tummy was not happy the 4th day I had it. Variety is key.

It's the weekend...Valentine's day is on Monday. We are going to Brunch on Sunday because Brunch is my favorite meal of the week.

Top 2 Tuesday - Lessons from blogging

It is Top 2 Tuesday again...

Top 2 Things You've Learned About Blogging

1. At first I wrote straight from the heart about me and my life. This blog was for me. Then I saw people were following and I didn't want to offend so I stopped doing that. Then I realized - this is my blog, my life and I get to choose its content. I like it that way. I would never intentionally offend someone, but this is a record I keep for me that I love to share with others.

2. Blog friends can become IRL friends. It's true!

Bad blogger

With the "winter storm" that blew through Htown and being crazy busy at work and in my personal life - the blog get set aside....

This weekend B, the Roxy dog and I went to the bark park, the farmers market, out on a wonderful date day that turned into a date night.

It was cold this weekend...
so cold in fact that Roxy burrowed herself under the blankets in her crate and didn't want to get out.

Top 2 Tuesday - Friendships

It's Top 2 Tuesday Again...

Top 2 Things You have learned about Friendship - ok or top 4.

1. To only be friends with people that value you the same as you value them. There are times when you are needed more than you need them and vice versa. But in the end, make sure you are valued. I have been used too many times and so just like I said in THIS post... "But my time, ME - I am more valuable than a fake friendship."  and "But the friends that I have deep conversations with, that know ME, that want to know how I am doing and don't want to hear "fine" - I always ALWAYS have time for them."

2.  Friendships evolve and change. For example - my best friend is pregnant with her first child. Our friendship is changing- and that is ok. Her life is about to truly change again. Our friendship changed when she got married as well (and that is ok!). We have learned that when something changes you can grow together or apart. I know she will be busy with the baby and I know she will be a wonderful parent, but that means our talks all of the time, they won't be as often. That also means our ALONE time will be all the more precious. I've just learned that also my life has changed - so our friendship has.

3. Lastly - When your best friend tells you "you have to meet this person, I just know you will be great friends with her. You like similar things and are going through the same thing right now" believe her. I met that person and V has become such an amazing friend. Actually I would say V has become my "other" best friend.

4. You can't have enough friends. As long as they are TRUE friends.

Weekend Wrapup

Short quick updates-

1. This weekend included my best friend's baby shower. It was a lot of fun, and she looked amazing. Most of all, it was wonderful seeing her again. Since she lives in Austin and I do not (I am not happy that I do not, but I don't!) I rarely get to see her - so it was lovely to spend a few hours in her company. She truly is the best friend I could ever have!

2. B and I went to the Farmers market and I think we picked up some great items - including FRESH Snapper. We met the fisherman and everything - love knowing where our food comes from.

3. WE watched Texas beat Missouri - Go Horns...at least one team can win these days ;)

3. Sunday was a lazy but wonderful day. Sometimes you just need to rest.

Budgeting

Thanks to Buford Betty and all of her posts about getting out of debt, I decided to have a budget and stick to it this year. I don't really have much debt - no school loans, no consumer credit card debt...all I have is a car payment. I am pretty responsible when it comes to money...but I realized that I know how much I make and my savings should have A LOT more in it. So comes in the budget. I am almost 1 month down. I put all the amount I wanted to put in savings this month, I didn't eat out as much as I normally do as it is cheaper to eat at home and much healthier. B and I still had date nights, I still went for drinks with friends but instead of "oh I dont know what to make to tonight, let's go out" I had a plan.

I menu plan for the week EVERY Sunday. It really helps. WE do most of our cooking at B's place - because well his kitchen is SO MUCH BETTER than mine...and bigger. I subscribe to Cooking Light  Magazine and I have to say- we love it. I have yet to make something that wasn't just absolutely delish.

Anyway- if anyone needs tips on menu planning, eating in more etc- I can help. What I can't help with is the the WANT to do the dishes after you cook them...I still hate that part. :O)

BLog Meetups

So Taylor told me about the Dallas blog meet up. I have never met "blog" friends before. I somewhat keep my IRL friends and my blogging separate, but after reading about everyone else having such a great time meeting new people, I am really wanting to attend. I don't know if I can make it or not yet, but I want to. Has anyone else met up with "blog" friends. I'm not from Dallas, don't live in Dallas and the only connection I have there are my Godparents, whom obviously I write about often and just adore. I would love to also meet H-town folks as well. Anyway...just wondering...

Continuation of my last friendship post

Picking the people you want in your life and not keeping the ones that hold you back. That is what the last 2 years have been about for me.

Pre having B in my life I realized that I was in a "holding" pattern of dating seriously awful men. Men who said cruel things, did cruel things and yet I still held on. Sometimes I look back at those times in my life and I think "WHO THE HELL WAS I TO PUT UP WITH THAT BS?" I feel like an entirely different person than I used to be. I guess what they say is true - if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger.

I have done the same with friends. I just don't know how to truly explain the freeing feeling. I just think sometimes you have to truly look at your life and see who lifts you up and who doesnt.

Friday Favorites

B will laugh at this but today's Friday Favorites...

COUPONS

I love coupons. Does anyone else cut coupons like I do? I don't go overboard like the TLC Extreme Coupon people...but I do try to combine my coupons with sales...for example:

CVS was having a sale on makeup. UP to 75% off! Of course I indulged...because that is what I do!
So before sale and without coupons the items would have been a total of $175! With the sale combined with coupons I spent $22. Some items I bought because I thought they would be fun to "play" with - I mean I love playing with eye shadow and other things I stocked up on - hello Revlon black eyeliner that I love. So yeah. I love coupons. More than I should. I am ok with it.

I also love sales...but that is another Friday favorite sometime! :)

Fill in the blank Friday

It is Fill in the Blank Friday

1. I feel happy when....everything works out. Ya know, when you get all stressed out about something and in the end it works perfectly!

2. I get silly when...I drink too much wine!

3. Something that makes me sad is those commercials for abused animals - makes me tear up!

4. Something that makes me annoyed is - stupid people.

5. A time that I've been truly surprised was when my parents put together a surprise sweet 16 party for me. I was truly shocked.

6. I am so thankful for my life. THe people in it, everything I have accomplished and truly just my life.

7. I feel loved when I am surrounded by the ones I live.

I won! I won! I won!

The Pink Shoe Diaries was having a giveaway and I WON! I've never won. I am so excited...even more so because her blog was the very first blog I ever read...a million years ago. Now...what to buy!?!  :)

Stylish Blogger Award!

I got an award...

First..to Traffic Jelly - thank you for tagging me. I literally just started reading her blog as of Tuesday and I just could not stop. I have found she has incredible strength, great honesty and is a wonderful writer. She can put emotions into words, which I think is difficult to do at times. Life gives everyone their fair share of bumps in the road...I think it's time for Al to just have some smooth sailing for a while! :) Oh and her love of Guacamole and Wine - totally my kind of gal!

The Rules:

1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 15 recently discovered bloggers.
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award!

Ok, 7 things...

1. I love the University of Texas- Longhorns. UT was my first choice school and I loved every second I was in Austin. It was amazing to live out a dream of mine since I was little. This I know is no shock to everyone as I have professed this love of Burnt Orange and White many times...but I love them even in off years...like last season - it was hard to be a Longhorn last football season!

2. I smile all of the time. I smile when I am happy, when I'm nervous and just because. I feel life is too short to not be smiling - and I don't care if I have "smile lines" it means I'm happy, and I'm ok with happy.

3. Wine is an obsession of mine. I drink it far too often so I am trying to cut back...but I just love it.

Friendships.

Sometimes I sit and wonder about life. You know, the deep thought kind of moments and I think to myself...

Is this my life? Is it what I really want it to be? What do I want to change? Do I truly treat others the way I want to be treated? Am I really happy or just happy enough?

I ponder the "what ifs" and the "if only these.." in life and then I look at what I am surrounded by and I think

Wow.  I worked hard for all of this.  I was lucky in some situations and unlucky in others. One thing remains constant in my thoughts though - I couldn't do all of this, dream all of this, and truly love all of this if I were alone. I am surrounded by love.

Some was easy and some was difficult, but truly every single day I think "I love my life."

Love is hard. Love is trying and love is so incredibly difficult. But the ones I have chosen to surround myself with, I love more than I could ever explain. Love is lost, love is found.

I had "friends" that I realized weren't what I would want in a friend- so even though it was difficult, I decided to no longer pursue those types of "friendships". Sure there are days when I am lonely and "if only" I didn't let go of  (insert name of former friend) "friendship" then I would have someone to go to the mall with, have lunch with etc. But my time, ME - I am more valuable than a fake friendship.

It wasn't easy but everyone that I have in my life - I know is a true friend. I like it better that way. Sure I go out with a group of people now and again, but usually one of my real friends is in that group - because I think overall I'd rather stay home and read than be surrounded by people that I know don't value me the way I would value them.

It was a huge lesson to seek those that value me equal to how I value them. It isn't that my heart isn't open to new friendships, it always is, but the old ones, where I realized I was being used, called only because no one else is available, used to get to know other people - I don't have time for that. I'd rather read.

But the friends that I have deep conversations with, that know ME, that want to know how I am doing and don't want to hear "fine" - I always ALWAYS have time for them.

Top 2 Tuesday - Addictions

Top 2 Strange Addictions

1. Goldfish. I admit goldfish aren't strange...but I have no kids in my life...so this unmarried, childless twentysomething buys goldfish in HUGE quantities...I can't get enough!

2. Cutting my cuticles. Gross, I know. But I cut them ALL the time...and yes I know I shouldn't. Thanks!

New Years

B and I had a fantastic New Years! (if you can't tell from the photo!)

It all started at a friends house - we grilled steaks and had a yummy dinner with champagne and wine. Then we headed to the St. Regis to ring in the New Year. We partied and truly had a wonderful time. We left around 12:45 as our friends were getting and so were we. Our friends live a few blocks away from one of B's fraternity brothers that was also having a party so we decided to stop by for a little bit. A LITTLE bit turned into almost 4:30AM. Needless to say, it was fun.

On our way home we saw some BEAUTIFUL German Shepherds running about a major road. So of course B pulls over, corrals them into the car and takes them to their home. WE called the number on their tags and since there was no answer we just went to their house. The dogs were precious. The owners....were a bit confused as they had no idea their HUGE dogs got out. Knocking on the door at almost 5AM...yeah they were a bit scared at us until we explained the situation...then they were nothing but so incredibly happy their dogs were home.

I'd be so upset if we lost Roxy so even though I thought B was CRAZY for putting them in the car, I am glad they are home with their owners. He always does the right thing!

Friday Favorites

It's Friday and it is Favorite time again..and these past few weeks haven't been about "things" - something about this time of year that makes me thankful and makes me reflect on life - not the things in it - but who I surround myself with and how loved I feel.

So this Friday Favorite is...

My life.

It truly amazes me how incredibly blessed I am to have my life. Things have dramatically changed in the past almost 2 years. New place to live, new job, new friends, and yet some things have remained constant - great old friends, a wonderful family, amazing Godparents and truly a wonderful relationship with myself.

I look at 2010 and think - wow. What an incredible year. My 27th year started out at S.tephan P.yles restaurant in Dallas. It was magical and to be incredibly honest- a fantastic way to start the year...and since then EVERYTHING has been just as wonderful.

From the many trips
Florida (twice)
Galveston (MANY times)
Big Bend
California (La Jolla!)
DC
Austin
Seattle
to name a few....

To the many celebrations:
Weddings
Birth of Children
Birthdays

To one amazing pup that makes my heart smile...

TO the quiet moments at home - I love my life.

I'm so incredibly lucky to have my life. :) Hope y'all have a wonderful New Years!

Top 2 Tuesday - Resolutions

Top 2 New Years Resolutions:

1. Cook more often at home, stay in more often.
WE try to menu plan weekly, but I would like to be better at it and only go out when we have planned for it in advance.

2. Use my gym more often. Yeah....must be done.

Weekend Wrapup - Birthday and Christmas

My birthday was wonderful. Almost everyone came out and truly I felt so special and so loved to be surrounded by my amazing friends. :)

For my birthday...B surprised me with something I never would have guessed as it is so not like him to indulge me in things like this....

A while back I sent him the link to the Hermes Twilly that I just fell in love with. :) I love it even more tied to my wrist! :)

For Christmas he surprised me with MY E-READER!!!!!!!!! OMG I don't know how I lived without it.
He also buys me ornaments every year...and this year he got me...

The Hallmark Cupcake Ornament - 1st in series - reminds me of our random trips to Sprinkles and Crave for cupcakes :)

and he got me 2 UT ornaments - one that is a flip flop to remind us of our beach vacations this year and one that is a GORGEOUS globe that has the tower, bevo and littlefield fountain. Truly I loved them.

Oh and my parents bought me the watch I wanted...so I guess I got everything on my Christmas list...I suppose I was Good this year ;)

This Christmas was lovely. B went to his parents and I went to mine. I got to have dinner with my brother one evening and it was wonderful. We caught back up on life and ate TONS of sushi...

My mom's surgery went well and she was pretty out of it for Christmas, but all in all, it was good and I am gald she's ok.

And now on to NEW YEARS! :)

It's my BIRTHDAY

Today is my 28th Birthday.

One...I cannot believe I am 28! It seems so "adult" ...not old...just ADULT. Yes I know at 25, 22 etc I was an adult as well, but it seems this year I feel like I'm no longer a young adult. I guess I wasn't a young adult last year, but this year it hit me. Wow...I'm 28!

But 27 was the best year of my life. Truly...the best. Yes bad things happened, but many many wonderful things happened and I look back and just think wow. This is my life. I am so incredibly blessed.

Last year I spent my birthday with my Godparents. This year I will spend it with my friends and my little brother as he is in town.

Also...please pray for my mom, she's having surgery today and while it is minor, she still has to be put under and I just worry about that. I know it will all be ok, but if you are the praying kind, please put her in your prayers. My dad is going to be taking care of her tonight while my brother and I are out with my friends to celebrate my birthday.

New year, new look?

I want a new look for my blog...anyone know anyone or have any recommendations someone? I can write...I cannot make a blog page!

Weekend Wrapup

I moved this past weekend. I have no idea where most of my stuff is...but I am in the city, near work and I have a place with an attached garage. I love it. Not to mention B is about 1 mile away...not too shabby.

We also had "Christmas" between the two of us since he is going to be going to his parents on the 23-26. It was fun. We made a fire in his fireplace, opened presents, made dinner and just enjoyed each others company. And..for those that are interested...He got me my e-reader!! (and a few other things!) Truly I am so blessed.

I think I have said it from the beginning - but truly as every day passes I look at my life and I am 100% happy. I couldn't have a better life than the one I have.

Top 2 Tuesday - Memories

It is already that time again...

TOP 2 TUESDAY...

Today's Top 2  -

Top 2 Favorite Christmas Memories

1. My brother and I ALWAYS watch A Christmas Story together. I love it. Even now as "adults" we do this. We would also watch "Santa Claus" but this has ceased in the past few years.

2. My brother and I always tell each other what mom and dad got us. We are not good at keeping secrets so usually when one of us finds out what mom and dad got the other, we call them up and tell them. This has happened since we were little. If he would be with my parents when they bought my gifts, he'd come home and tell me and vice versa. I'm not sure if my parents know this, but it's always fun :)

As you can see...most things when it comes to Tradition/memories my brother is part of. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Friday Favorites

FRIDAY FAVORITE:

Letters.

I love getting mail...especially letters from friends. I have saved most of the letters and cards I have been given in my lifetime.

Sometimes, when I am feeling down...I open that box up and read cards, letters and even some email that touched my heart. It just makes me smile.

Top 2 Tuesday ...on a Monday! - GAMES

It is that time of the week again...TOP 2 TUESDAY

This week is it...TOP 2 FAVORITE GAMES....

1. Catch Phrase - I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GAME...so fun and I love partner games!

2. Poker. I love poker and it is so much fun with a big group of people...who don't take themselves too seriously!

Weekend Wrapup

This weekend was fun...

THursday I had a dental appointment and I was left bruised with a swollen cheek. It was not pleasant! I went home early from work on Friday because it hurt so much. SO Friday was a bust of a day for me.

Saturday was B's Office Holiday Party - SO FUN and the food is out of this world. I easily could have gained 20 lbs! He works with some really great people.

Sunday we lazed around, went grocery shopping and made a Gingerbread house...we are NOT talented at icing gingerbread houses AT ALL. It was a disaster but fun - I am always laughing with him. It makes my heart smile!
Sunday evening my friend L had a dinner party - it was great seeing all of the girls and meeting everyone's significant others. I just had a wonderful time.

Too bad my face is still puffy and my cheek is black and blue! At least it doesn't hurt anymore!

I cannot wait - move day is fast approaching and I know once I have my place decorated I will post LOTS of pictures. I cannot wait.

Friday Favorites

Today's Friday Favorite isn't something you can go buy or anything...today's favorite is...

MY little Brother. He isn't that little anymore and that makes me sad. In fact, he is a second year law student at a very good law school somewhere East of Texas. (Vague I know!)

Throughout the past almost 25 years (geez he's almost 25!) he has been the best brother I could ever ask for. As we were growing up our parents never let us bring friends on trips- that's why we had a brother/sister and so we got along (mostly!) It was fun traveling together - and my parents "cut us loose" a lot. We had to stay together but could meet them back in 2 hours. It was great.

This time of year I get all sentimental because we don't see each other often - ever since I left for College it has been every few months and then stretched further to 3 times a year. It makes me sad but at the same time - I love how we have stayed in touch - email, texting, calling each other. I feel very fortunate that we WANT to see each other and that we WANT to stay in touch. He is coming in town right before my birthday and leaving right after Christmas. I cannot wait to spend quality time with him. B will be with his family and his B (his gf's name also starts with a B!) will be with her family. SO my little brother and I will party on my birthday together, go get sushi together one night, watch a Christmas story and probably lament together that our parents drive us crazy but that we are so lucky...so incredibly lucky to have each other, amazing parents and truly wonderful lives.

B, Me and my little brother last year celebrating my birthday with Roger Creager!

My little brother and myself on my ACTUAL birthday in Dallas.

Fill in the blank Friday

It's already Friday again...which means....  FILL IN THE BLANK FRIDAY

Yves Rocher

Yves Rocher

Has anyone bought anything from this company before?

I bought a few things a while back and I have to say I am SUPER impressed. I don't like body washes and lotions that are too perfumey and so far I am in love with the stuff I bought - and all of it was on sale (apparently they are like B.ath and B.ody W.orks as in give it time and everything goes on sale)

Just wondering if anyone else has bought from them before...

Top 2 Tuesday - Ornaments

IT's already TUESDAY (ok MONDAY) but Top 2 Tuesday is HERE....

Top 2 Favorite Christmas Ornaments!

1. My Longhorn ones that B got me last year!

2. My Hallmark "A Christmas Story" leg lamp one. It reminds me of how every year my little brother and I would watch that movie together. I love that movie. "You'll shoot your eye out"

Weekend Wrapup

This weekend was my Company's Holiday Party. It was a lot of fun and I'm slowly getting to know my new coworkers. After the party B and I went for Sushi...DELISH and then we zonked out early for  Friday night.

Saturday had me running errands and decorating for Christmas. I don't go "all out" just a few things here and there to make it more festive...and a tree...which has yet to go up. Saturday night we met the usuals out at C.edar C.reek. I love that bar/grill place. It is just so nice and reminds me of Austin.

Sunday we ran errands and went to the mall- poor B was SO overwhelmed! WE cooked a FANTASTIC dinner together and crashed. Pork tenderloin with apples! MMM!!!

Question out there for everyone - B needs new jeans and well, where is a good place to find mens jeans that  Don't have holes in them (he can wear jeans to work...must be nice to be a geologist!)

Friday Favorites

I know it has been a while, but I am trying to get back on track with my life and my blog. So here we go...

Avene's Cold Cream Lip is my favorite.

I know I have talked about different lipsticks etc, but when it comes to my lips being so chapped they hurt, this is what I turn to. I discovered it for myself when I was 16 and in Paris for the first time with my mom. I love going overseas and venturing into their pharmacies. It was Winter in Paris still (It was March) and my lips were dry so I bought this and my world...or lips I should say, changed. It is THICK and heavy and yes it makes my lips a little less pink but IT SOOTHES. I LOVE IT! Now you can get it in the states...used to not be able to and whenever someone I knew was headed across the pond I would ask them for it!

Weekend Wrapup- Florida Thanksgiving

So our Thanksgiving took place in Florida this year. Actually the weekend before Thanksgiving B and I headed up to Dallas to have an early Thanksgiving with his grandparents. B is an only child as is his father, which makes him the only grandkid - If Grandma wants you there, you go. It was great. The food was delicious and OMG her cookies are AMAZING. We had our "traditional" meal early.

So we left on Wednesday the 24th for Sunny Florida. His parents picked us up from the Palm Beach airport (they had been there since Sunday) and we headed for the boat in Delray.

Thursday morning we woke up LATE. (I was asleep until past 9, which is unheard of for me.)  B and I headed to breakfast at Boheme Bistro - delish french toast! We picked up what we thought were Chocolate Brioche for his parents and headed back to the boat. We spent the day out at Boca Lake just relaxing and cooked some burgers and just had a great time. For our actual Thanksgiving- we went ITALIAN! Vic and Angelos in Delray was so incredibly good- I mean lick the plate omg delicious- I had four cheese pear tortelloni...SO good.

Friday we slept in and spent the day out and about in Delray. B and I had breakfast at Caffe Luna Rosa on Ocean Blvd. DELISH pancakes.  We went to different shops and just relaxed. We walked down Atlanic Ave and tried all of the "you just gotta try it" things. We had conch fritters (LOVE) and we had mini a Linda Bean Lobster Roll. Too much good food in Florida!   B and I walked a little bit on the beach, took a nap and I got to finish the book I was reading. Saturday night we all headed to a Greek Restaurant that B has been talking about FOREVER. It's called Greek Islands Taverna and it is in Fort Lauderdale. SO GOOD. We had saganaki, shrimp, octopus, chicken, steak, and I am sure more things that I can't think of right now.

Saturday we headed out early to take the boat to a different Marina - we went from Delray to Palm Beach Gardens. It was nice being out on the open water and just relaxing. Dinner was at Carmines and was good - and a nice hop skip and a jump from the boat! :)

As you can see...we ate A LOT...and it was so good...but the Greek Restaurant was by far the very best Greek Food I've had since I was in Greece!

Overall, it was just a nice relaxing trip. I needed it!

Trying to catch up!

With the new job, holidays and moving...my life is hectic and I haven't had time to breathe - ok so I was in Florida for Thanksgiving and breathing JUST FINE - but now we are back and I am trying to catch my breath before the big move - ok big for me because I am moving into the City and I am super exicted about my new place...for so many reasons...including
  • it has a garage. It is an apartment but I have my very own garage ATTACHED to my apartment. Think townhouse-ish. SUPER STOKED!
  • The kitchen is HUGE - so I FINALLY will get to use all of my girly platters and all of my fabulous cookware.
  • The bathroom is amazing. Garden tub, huge vanity.
  • I have not one but TWO closets in my bedroom. I still have a coat closet at the front so I think one is going to be a shoe and accessories closet and the other is for clothes.
  • I get to have accent walls. Seriously...this does make me excited BECAUSE I get to HAVE COLOR ON MY WALLS!
  • 24 hour gym. Yeah...no excuses now.
  • It is about 2.2 miles from work. LOVE not having a commute!
  • Lastly - It is less than one mile from B's place.  This makes me happy.

Also- it is 21 days until MY BIRTHDAY!
